The Project Brief

The Thompsons wanted to replace their tired, uneven concrete patio with something modern, low-maintenance and suitable for family use. The garden faced south-west and was used frequently for summer barbecues and children's play. Key requirements included an anti-slip surface, proper drainage away from the house, and a clean contemporary look that would complement their newly renovated kitchen extension.

The existing patio had been laid on a poor sub-base with inadequate falls, leading to standing water and moss growth. We recommended a full dig-out and replacement with large-format porcelain tiles — 900x600mm in a light sandstone finish — laid on a full-bed mortar mix with 3mm joint spacing for a sleek, seamless appearance.

The Result

The finished patio transforms the garden. The large-format tiles create a spacious, open feel, while the anti-slip finish gives peace of mind in wet weather. The linear drainage keeps the surface clear of puddles, and the reinforced edging provides a crisp transition to the lawn.
